Store Bits: Beekeepers, Behind-The-Scenes, Store Tours and Our Top 10 Most Absurd Books

Our Klaartje is a passionate amateur beekeeper.  In a beautiful cross-pollination of work and hobby, she has organised our sponsoring of the magazine American Beekeeper’s Journal for Imkervereniging Bussum.  Hooray!

17 Behind-the-Scenes Secrets of Bookstores.  While this list is very US-oriented (see nr. 7 and nr. 9!  Especially nr. 9 – gah!), it does mostly ring true (see nr. 1, 2, 12 and, to be very Dutch about it, nr. 17 ;-)).

A big thank you to Raymond Snijders, who took a tour of ABC Amsterdam and wrote about it – in amazing technicolor detail on his blog!  Click here to see all his pictures and read what he has to say.

(As regards those really high shelves that you can’t really reach: they’re meant as overstock only.  I guess we need to rethink how to make that demarkation more clear so customers don’t risk life and limb for something that can also be found at safer altitudes!)

Het Parool featured us last week when two enterprising journalists listed the 10 Most Absurd Books of ABC (article is in Dutch).  I may have laughed out loud when I read their blurb for My First Kafka.  Also, thanks to this article we are now out of Penis Pokey (no worries, it’s been reordered already).  And yes, we are very proud to have these books as part of our stock.  🙂
