Firstly, thanks to The American Book Center for this advance copy in exchange for my honest review. Now, let’s dive into this.
Wow. This book was a huge wow for me. This is my first time reading a book by Lisa Jewell and what a book this is! I was so mesmerised right from the start. It’s such a page-turner, though I will admit that I did take my time to read this, because I didn’t want it to end. That is how much I was enjoying this book. With a book that has short chapters, which makes it hard to read slowly, I refused to devour the book. I wanted it to last forever.
Now, between these chapters are my favourite parts of this book: you will read transcripts of the interview between the police/detective and the potential suspect/witnesses. It’s like getting to see the future a little bit at a time. Doesn’t that sound fun? It makes you feel like you might know what’s going to happen (because you read what will happen) but then when you read on, you might be surprised! It’s just not about finding out who did it, but also finding out who was killed. I really thought I knew what was going on, but man, I was wrong.
As I’ve mentioned, you will be reading from the perspectives of 3 characters and you’ll also get to know about people in their lives. While that sounds like you might have to keep up with many characters, surprisingly, I did not find it confusing or hard to keep up. With the diverse range of personalities, these characters really stand on their own and I was not bored of any of them even though some of them aren’t necessarily likeable. Lisa Jewell really did a clever job writing this. The plot, the twists and turns, and all the way till the end, everything was so masterfully written. I enjoyed this and I want this to turn into a TV show. Most importantly, I want and need to read her other books.
If you’re looking for something suspenseful, interesting characters and just a mind-blowing thriller, grab this book! I promise you won’t regret it. I gave it 5/5 stars.
