Murder in Scotland?
Mark my words, Douglas: before this case is over, a great deal of unhappiness will be shared by all. Sometimes, my dear fellow, he remarked gently, it may be better not to know.
It is 1920. The ancestral estate of Eilan Donan, situated on Loch Alsh, has been beset by mysterious supernatural events, from sheep found with their throats slashed, to a woman attacked by an unseen being who leaves no traces of entry, to a family member found dead with marks on his throat. The head of the estate, Aleck Blaven, entreats his cousina London lawyer by the name of James Douglasto come to Scotland to help the family. On his way to Eilan Donan, Douglas meets an amateur detective named Arthur Mycroft, who offers his assistance . . . but can the two of them get there in time to prevent further murders? Furthermore, when the family history is disclosed, will anyone really want to know the truth?
