This tale is an homage to several eras in history, particularly in Los Angeles, California.
The title does not refer to a woman but a classic car, proudly owned by a Latina woman. The issues that the author describes are real and seriously consequential. Expatriatism is carefully explained and understandable in certain situations. But it also chronicles another era in history: the Zootsuit Riots from 1943. Injustice and prejudice are themes that never grow old, along with the intolerance of human beings for “other people.” Such hostility clashes with the intimate connection between two women who discover love and must decide whether it is more important to be together or apart?
This is the third in the collection of lgbtq+ novelles from the book Cocktales by Chantz Perkins.
