Maus is a Holocaust (auto)biography about a father who survived Auschwitz and his difficult relationship with his son, who was born after the war. In this graphic novel, humans wear animal masks: the Jews are depicted as mice and the Nazis and traitors as cats or pigs, based, presumably, on the characteristics of each group. Maus was the first graphic novel to be awarded the prestigious Pulitzer Prize. Combined here are "Maus I: A Survivor's Tale" and "Maus II" - the complete story of Vladek Spiegelman and his wife, living and surviving in Hitler's Europe. By addressing the Holocaust through cartoons the author captures the everyday reality of fear and the sensation of survival.
