A Wild Swan: And Other Tales

Here are the moments that our fairy tales forgot or deliberately concealed, reimagined by one of the most gifted storytellers of his generation, the Pulitzer Prize winning author of The Hours, and exquisitely illustrated by Yuko Shimizu. Rarely have our bedtime stories been this dark, this perverse, or this true.

This collection of fairytale-based short stories arrived and immediately grabbed my attention. Safe to say it never made it to the shelf!
Cunningham presents a bleak twist on some of the most well-known, well-loved fairytales. He doesn't stray too far from the original stories, while at the same time giving them a highly personal touch. Every story has its own style of narration, and I especially loved the unusual ones (such as a second-person perspective).
Definitely one of my favourite books of fairytale adaptations ever!
