The Queen Of The Tearling: (The Tearling Trilogy 1)

Kelsea Glynn is the sole heir to the throne of Tearling but has been raised in secret after her mother - a monarch as vain as she was foolish - was murdered for ruining her kingdom.

I read this book the same reason I think many did: Emma Watson had raved about it, so, naturally, I had to read it. This is a fantasy story but instead of focusing on action, this book was much more centred around the political side of ruling a kingdom, which was a very interesting turn of events.

This is a well-written fantasy about a young woman's coming of age. Kelsea needs to be a tough cookie while learning to become a queen in a world where so many want her dead. Her mother was an empty-headed beauty, so she needs to prove her value as a true queen - while not being a beauty herself - and at the same time try to make the right choices AND not losing herself in the process.
I'm really looking forward to the second instalment!

I was looking for a nice Fantasy trilogy and came upon this book, the first of a series written by Erika Johansen. It's about a young girl who has to take over as queen of her kingdom once she comes of age. With the help of a loyal band of guards and some magical stones she sets out to become just this. This isn't a book that needs a lot of deep thought, it's just a nice feel-good fantasy book with a sympathetic heroine.
