Highlights: Manga
Manga are graphic novels and comics from Japan. Manga is traditionally read from right to left, unlike Western comics, which read from left to right. In the past, Manga grandmasters such as Osamu Tezuka have made a great impact in the west with titles such as Astroboy. In Japan mangas are usually serialized in magazines such as Shonen Jump, then chapters are grouped and eventually published as volumes called Tanbouken.
Within the manga genre, there are subtypes: Shonen (juvenile action aimed at teens), Shoujo (young femme focused stories), Seinen (mature action ad stories), Josei (mature female narratives), and many more. Although popularity of manga really depends on the Zeitgeist, current popular mangas are Demon Slayer, Attack on Titan, One Piece and Jujutsu Kaisen.
